Gene Glaudell, Long Form Biography

Gene Glaudell, Senior Client Advisor at Fearless Revival, collaborates with senior executive teams to create better ways to address business opportunities and challenges using effective business and technology strategy that lead to superior operational methods and sensible execution. Gene approaches business problems using quantitative methods, accelerated by decades of real-world problem-solving experience in business, technology and research and development. He facilitates dialogue among all stakeholders to create a joint, evidence-based situational awareness from which teams can devise effective solution options. Clients design realistic, actionable options and make choices informed by accurate understandings of expected results and risks.

During his 25+ years working within and consulting for information technology organizations, Gene observed that many technology initiatives were considered failures because of ineffective, poorly communicated, ignored or non-existent business strategies. He switched his focus to that problem, working with business and technology teams to formulate and communicate business strategies in ways that gave accurate business targets for design, build, and run teams to deliver against.  This has repeatedly resulted in more effective use of capital and significant improvements in development and operational efficiency, customer and stakeholder satisfaction and business outcomes.

Tesla Motors recruited Gene to be their first CIO during the prototyping and pre-production phases. This led to the launch of the ground-breaking Tesla Roadster and the design of the highly successful Tesla Model S electric vehicles. Gene transformed a startup IT team into an IT capability supporting the engineering, global supply chain, manufacturing, sales, service, finance and HR functions for the first large scale automotive manufacturer in the U.S. in decades.

Gene now advises senior executives on solutions to critical business and technology problems. He brings a rich tool kit of models and problem-solving techniques developed during his physics research at University of Illinois, University of Chicago, Harvard University and Lawrence Berkeley Labs. Gene has advised dozens of startups, high growth companies and Fortune 100 / FTSE100 firms in Financial Services, Manufacturing, CPG, Healthcare and Communications on how to approach their important opportunities and challenges. In 2017, the telecommunications industry awarded Gene a TM Forum Outstanding Contributor award for his work on digital trust, privacy, payments, and platforms for use in the digital transformation of businesses.

In addition to Tesla Motors, Gene has held technology leadership roles at AWS, JPMorgan Chase, Cummins, Classified Ventures, Lawson Products and BEA Systems.  He developed award-winning software for Mission Research and designed solutions for winning $100M+ proposals for Raytheon. Gene has a graduate degree in Physics from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree in Physics the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has had research fellowships at the Fermi Institute, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
